We are a new political party created in 2008 in Hamilton, New Zealand, that combines elements of the left and right to create a new way to govern our country smarter and more equitably.
Our Policies:
Land Tax - Abolish all current taxes in favour of an annual 10% Land Tax (“LT”) levied on the unimproved value of all privately held land in New Zealand, which is then 100% redistributed to citizens equally as a Citizens Dividend (“CD”). This will give 95% of citizens more back in the form of their CD than they pay in LT ensuring a right to a basic standard of living and also will control house prices, simplify taxes, increase GDP and. Monetary Reform – We will restore the ability of the Government to create money through the reserve bank and stop commercial banks from being able to do so. This simple change will enable upto $20 billion every year to be created for needed public spending thereby eliminating the need for further taxes. Kiwibank will become the only "bank" where people can deposit and withdraw money and commercial banks as we know them today will become finance companies who invest ‘other peoples money’. Health - Everyone will be able to afford comprehensive Health insurance using their Citizens Dividend which will pay for all needed healthcare costs leaving the Government free to focus on preventative measures only.
Education – Abolish compulsory public schooling in favour of investment in ICT infrastructure to enable private schools of the future to be run efficiently online. There will be scholarships and assistance for underprivilaedged children to school. Tertiary education will continue to be funded by way of student loans and bulk funding of qualifying institutions.
Infrastructure - Investment and research will be focussed on developing and commercialising 100% electric “emissions-free” public and private transport by 2040 combined with 100% renewable electricity generation. A nationwide broadband network will provide free internet access to the entire country’s citizens within 5 years.
Environment - Carbon neutral country by 2020 with zero landfills and heavy penalties for environmental damage and abuse. Fossil fuel powered electricity generation to be phased out over 15 years.
Welfare - Welfare as we currently know it will no longer be required because of the citizen’s dividend (see Land Taxes). Other social services such as CYFS, Family support and community work will continue to be funded.
NZ Constitution - We support action to initiate a framed and comprehensive constitution which will enshrine the human and civil rights of the people of New Zealand and divide government powers up into four separate elected branches - Parliament, Executive, Judiciary and Independent Bodies. \Each government division will be separately elected in 3 \ year terms and held accountable to the people for acting independently of eachother. Such a constitution will also incorporate the principles in the Treaty of Waitangi.
Free Legal Services – for all citizens paid for by the government will enshrine your right to justice.
Limited Liability - We will empower courts to lift the limited liability protection enjoyed by shareholders of companies where a law has been broken and seek restorative payment from shareholders on a pro-rata basis.
Social Insurance - We will set up government administered (but privately funded) insurance pools in order for people to more reliably and cheaply purchase plain-vanilla insurance products such as life, health, auto, personal liability, house and contents, property, travel, credit and much more. This will simply use the power of strength in numbers to get you a better deal.
Tenants Rights - We will strengthen the rights of tenants in the Tenancy Act along the lines of those in the Employment relations act to give more power to the tenant. These provisions include: that tenants be able to buy their house at the fair market price after 3 years tenure, maximum-fixed-term residential tenancy agreements will become illegal, rent increases will be limit to the inflation rate, and tenants cannot be asked to leave their house unless by a Tenancy tribunal ruling that they have violated the terms of their tenancy agreement. All this will be done to strengthen the place of the house for a tenant family to the level of owner-occupiers affirming the positive role that security of living has in our society.
Trade and Foreign Affairs – We will support and continue the good work labour is doing here in maintaining and developing healthy and constructive relations with our international neighbours and also being a force for good in international issues.
Defence and Security- We will ensure we have a strong and adequate defence force to defend our shores and partake in peacekeeping operations around the globe.
Immigration – Under a Land Tax system immigration becomes a benefit to citizens so our party will increase the numbers of refugees and quality immigrants accepted by New Zealand each year in a measured way.
Justice / Law and Order – We will destroy all lethal weapons and ban them from NZ, increase police resources, impose stricter sentences, make jury service compulsory and make early youth intervention a priority.
